Turns out I might be getting to know a new arch. The VAXstation that I bidded on (the 5000) isn’t a VAXstation, it’s a DECstation. It’s a totally different arch. It’s DEC’s MIPS workstation. You can use NetBSD/pmax on it (versus NetBSD/vax on the VAXstation). Should have read before bidding. Oh well, I get a new arch if I win the auction.

Ehh, bidded on a VAXstation 5000. So I’m hopping to at least win that (prefered) or the 3100 m76 (see yesterday).
Pretty boring this week. There isn’t much to do around my area. Hmm, I was suppose to go to NYC on Friday, but I don’t know how that’s going. Ahh, whatever.
This morning I was fumbling around Mozilla’s Preferences (I screwed up my fonts while I was at it). Hey, I actually found this pop-up blocker thing everybody has been talking about. I clicked on the checkbox and started to use it. It works… for the most part.
Ehh, lost the VAXstation auction. Found another one that was less expensive and is a better model of the 3100.
Went to my old high school today to visit and help out the robotics team. They participate in the FIRST Robotics Competition. Yes, this is the same FIRST run by Dean Cainman, the maker of those Segway things that are showing up now.
Hmm, they dropped the 14″ iBooks by a $100. They are seeming better and better everyday.
Oh shit, it’s snowing (and not just melting away). Yay.
Saw Two Towers yesterday (yes, I know I’m late). It was good, but not as good as I expected it to be. It went aways from the novel more than the first one, or so I heard. Hmm, should really read the books.
Applied for a job on Friday. Need money. Hopefully I will get the job, with a decent amount of pay. This job is only so I can get experience and hold me over until I find a better one.
Still on top with the VAXstation, with less that 2 days to go. I’m well on my way to non-x86 goodness.
Can’t sleep. It’s really terrible since it’s a nightly occurance. I go to bed, but don’t go to sleep for another hour or two afterwards (unless I’m really tired). Should really get it checked out.
So Thursday I watched Resident Evil (on DVD). I thought it would be scarier and I have not a clue whether it’s anything like the game since I only played the second game one for like an hour at a friends house. Overall, it was alright.
Also on Thursday, I continues on my VMS/VAX whateveryouwanttocallit and bidded on a VAXstation 3100 off of eBay. Not planning to spend much money, I bidded low. I’m still the highest bidder, hope it says that way. Also, I’m not quite sure if I’m just going to use a serial console on it (I have a Wyse 60 terminal in my closet) or get a monitor/keyboard/mouse for it. Ehh, probably will use the terminal first then get the other crap later. Another thing I’ll need for the VAXstation is a CD-ROM drive. Heard it’s pretty hard to find since the drive is has a special SCSI connector and needs to send data in 512-byte packets. I’ll find one. This VAX thing is going to be a big project.
On Friday, didn’t do much. Continues my VAX thing by looking up more information on serial consoles. I found a wiring diagram for the VAXstation’s serial MMJ to the terminal’s DB25 connector. Might get the parts next week if I win the auction. Another thing I did was to get iron on transfers. I want to make my own “Glenda, The Plan 9 Bunny” shirts. I don’t know what’s with me and that bunny. I guess it looks so cute since it’s so screwed up. Need to get shirts sometime next week.
Ehh, New Years wasn’t anything special. After coming from a New Years party, I went to sleep at 4am. Didn’t wake up until 12pm. I really didn’t feel like getting up, but my bladder had a different feeling. So I had to get up and I couldn’t go back to sleep. Didn’t do much for the rest of the day. Spent sometime looking at VAX stuff. Yeah, the VMS/VAX bug bit me again. I think I’ll actually get a VAX box off of eBay and install VMS on it. I’ve been meaning to do that for a while. I then gave Rutgers University some money (like $3.2k for the spring semester at the School of Engineering). Yay, another semester of classes (that wasn’t sarcastic). Damnit, I wish classes started sooner (they start 20 Jan). I’m getting bored here. After lightening my wallet, I slept since I started to get a headache. Got up a hour or two later to eat, then started practicing for my Morse Code and General Exam again. Going to take the exam on the 18th. That takes us up to now, where I’m trying to figure out what to do tomorrow. Ahh, it can wait till tomorrow, I’ll sleep now.
