Geeky.
Woke up late this morning, then went to school. Met up with J and went to surplus. Today seemed to be a nice day, they had a few SGI Indy’s, a lot of Ultra 5’s and some other Sun stuff. Ended up with an Indy (now known as Mint) and a SPARC classic (lunchbox style) (now known as Mustard). After waiting around for J to finish his meeting with that Bengali girl, he took me home to drop off the stuff then we went to dinner. Damnit, the sun mouse I told him to grab on the way out is a Type 5 Optical. I would be happy, if I had the expensive-as-hell and hard-to-find-as-fuck mouse pad. Oh well, time to find that damn thing.
Hmm, LDAP book came in. Got to find a hard drive for the SS5 now, along with a Quad Ethernet SBus card.
So when I came home, after walking in the rain, there, on the mail filer thing, was a book from Amazon.com: Kerberos: The Definite Guide. I was hoping for the LDAP book, which was the part of the combo I really wanted, but whatever. Read that for a little while before setting on the main events for the evening, fixing the SS5. So the SS5 was taking a really long time to boot and sometimes hung before the system came up, but I never had a console hooked up to it, so I never really saw what was wrong. I finally hooks the old serial terminal to it and booted it up. Ehh, errors on sd0, not what I was hoping for. The system stopped, moaning for a manual fsck_ffs. Continue reading ‘Media Error’
Man, damn, I hate spam. I hate spam especially when they send shit with this in the header: From: ldfhd@sourmilk.net. Oh wait, then they bounce and you have to deal with it. Now I have to clear all this crap. It’s not all their fault, I should have blackholed it or bounce the messages (like I’m doing now). There was some good from it thought, I found a message that was really for me (they forgot the r at the end).

“F12K”
I’d be pissed if the freight courier dropped my Sun Fire 12k.

Changed the directory name from /b2 to /copper. Please update links accordingly.

Bought a VAX on eBay. A nice VAXstation 3100 m38. I mean it doesn’t have a hard drive or a cd drive, but that is the joy, trying to find parts that will work in this old machine. Anyway, I’ll be ordering OpenVMS for VAX pretty soon. This won’t turn into a door stop.

Yeah, so went to “The Fifth HOPE” on Friday and Saturday (was too tired from not sleeping to go Sunday). They had a AS/400 overview thing (went to it since ACS has one) and I overheard some guys in the from talking about VAXen. Hmm, that sparked my interest again. So went to go eBay some. It’s going to be a fight.

Changed the style sheet to something more copper/metaly. Let’s see how much longer I can stand it.
On other news, I have this summer class that’s a lab. A lab for a class I have yet to take. I’m so backed up right now in it, and I’m not exactly sure what to do. I have no clue what the material is on and don’t want to spend this large allotment much time on this one-credit class whose material I’ll be seeing again in two semesters. I have this feeling that I’m going to drop it since I keep stressing about it and I don’t need another stress (namely since I need to focus the stress to another class). I really didn’t want to take the lab now, but registrar fuck ups(tm) kept it from being drop at the approprate time (Horary for the RU Screw(sm)). Err, I seriously need to get this whole thing straightened out.
Registrar’s site opens up in less than thiry-minutes. Hmm…
Where is the Pepto-Bismol?
