I find it real funny how people talk about using Word, Excel and Powerpoint like it’s akin to breathing. I think I’ve used all three of them for a total net time of 30 minutes in my entire life, using maybe Word for anything real.
Monthly Archive for January, 2005
It’s so great how in OS class, no one understand how the hell fork(2) works except for me and maybe one or two other guys. It’s really very stupid. Oh yeah, people not knowing includes the TA.
Anyway, the Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Department is having a mini-course (not for credit) on MPI. I registered within 5 minutes of the email announcment being sent out.
Another sleepless night. God damn. Just to note, there is about 2 feet of snow outside. Woot… shit, I have to walk in that later, damn it.
So I’m downloading Fedora Core to install over Debian on one of my machines for the Linux Programming class I’m taking. Oh man, Debian sucks so much (please, no hate mail). Sucky documentation, horrible installer, blah blah. Seriously, after dozens of Solaris installs and even more BSD install, you’d think I could get the damn thing installed properly (aparantly not). Err, whatever. I have to make a OpenBSD CD too, so I can finally install the router/firewall I’ve been meaning to make.
Not feeling too good this past week. I’ve been needing a lot of time to myself lately. We’ll see if today is better.
If you’ve ever ordered fron newegg.com and live in Central Jersey, you know it take an insane route from Editson to Newark to Branchburg. Well, I was getting something FedEx’ed to me (yes, I like to verb nouns). When I saw the tracking information for it, I had a few words I wanted to say (they start with ‘w’, ‘t’ and ‘f’): Continue reading ‘They must be using MSN’s MapPoint’
So, it’s snowing… a lot… like 2 feet a lot. It’s awesome except that I can’t get to work. Boo.
Update (19:43): Well, Operations is like one of three departments that is remaining open during the snow. Only on-campus student will be staffing the machine room. Hurray for refusing to give in.
So Spring Semester starts today (yes, look at the time). I have this feeling that it’s not going to be fun as previous semesters, but if it doesn’t start out terrible, then it will be a good semester. Yeah, I know I say that every semester, but I mean it this time. I have to keep it on track this time. Yes I will!
So what is lined up in classes today: “Principles of Electrical Engineering II (I know I was suppose to take this a year ago)”, “OS Recitation (in other words, this class ain’t happening today)”, and “Topics in ECE: Advanced Programming in Linux”. This Linux Programming class better kick ass or I’m going to be really pissed. I’ll post my schedule when I get the time to put in on a grid and sex it up.
Err, I think I have to buy notebooks later on before the Ops Staff Meeting.
Note to self: Get back on a normal sleeping schedule.
Ars Technica - Macworld walkabout
One of the guys at Ars Technica wandering around Macworld and giving marketing type people a hard time.
I especially like the quote:
BBEdit, the $179 — no, really, US$179 — text editor gives you a warning about APE being the cause of system instability.
Has anyone ever try BBEdit? It’s US$ 179, I’d like opinions.
Also, anyone up to answer the guy’s question at the end?
Sodium Party
Mmmm… Na…. H2O…. Explosion.
Floor buffer pulled into MRI machine’s magnets
I need bigger magnets.
