well come on at the least the ipod shuffle is verifiable shyte.

i have three problems with the ipod line in general:

1) the first gen one i used to have had only EQ presets, no manual settings, and i never got enough bass out of the damn thing no matter which setting or headphones i used. it didnt sound good with metal music etc.

2) its trendy as hell, and therefore ugly

3) i have the feeling that it’s somewhat overpriced, but i could be wrong

i have no comments on its technical merits, but it seems soild.

I know that you can drag and drop playlists into folders. I hope that’s not what they mean…

Gnomad2 is no good, it’s a gtk app.

The idea of syncing and usb mass storage is not mutually exclusive, but for some reason, people’s idea of being “Mac-friendly” means the device can be used as a usb mass storage. I want to be able to use it as usb mass storage, but I don’t want to have to manage my music (i.e. drag and drop my music as I add to my collection and remembering what the hell I got since the last time I “synced”, then there is the trouble of getting podcasts).

Apple has a list of players that are compatible with iTunes (keeping iTunes is a plus), but I’m not entirely sure what they mean by compatible.

That’s funny. I’m looking for only mp3 players that *are* USB mass storage devices because I want to be able to use it as a portable hard drive too.

I’m not really sure how the idea of syncing and the idea of a usb mass storage device are mutually exclusive.

The Creative ones aren’t USB mass storage devices. But there are probably programs that will let you sync with USB mass storage device players.
