“Confessions of an Engineering Washout”

TCS: Tech Central Station - Confessions of an Engineering Washout

Considering that I’m an engineering student, I find that I can relate to what this guy is talking about.

NYC BSD CON ‘05

It was a fairly exciting day, I went to NYC BSD CON at Columbia University. If you want to read about all the great presentations, one guy from the The Open Source Weblog was blogging about it during the conference.

All I really have to say it was vey nicely put togther and it was good to put faces to name/email addresses. Out of it, I got a couple of shirts (one of which was free), the second edition of Advanced Programming in the Unix Environment (an update to the classic), and I got my copy of The Design and Implementation of the FreeBSD Operating System signed by both authors. They were raffling away tons of books (about half of the hundred or so people got one (which value ranged from $30 to $75)), too bad I didn’t get one. Not a bad deal for the $20 registration fee.

Sun Microsystems, more bitchin’ than Dell

Sun Microsystems Anti-Dell Ads

If nothing more than the humor value.

Update: It appears that Sun has taken them down.

Update: It’s back up, although with out the “rejected” ones.

iTunes 5, atrocity to the eyes

Now that iTunes 5 is out, is anyone else pissed that Apple keeps changing the look of the UI? From the last count, there were 6 differnent themes (aqua (e.g. disk utility), brushed metal (e.g. Safari), wood (e.g. garage band), pro tools (e.g. Final Cut Pro), Tiger (e.g. Mail.app 2.0) and now the new iTunes).

Apple, this is not Windows, stop changing the friggin’ theme. Pick one theme and stick to it.

School Year 2005-2006

It’s two days into the beginning of the school year, which means that the nice days of summer with it’s empty busses and not-too-over crowded campus centers are gone, and clueless freshman who don’t know proper bus etiquette nor how to read a map are here. I’ve only had two classes so far, which seem decent enough. What is even more sweet is that it’s the long Labor Day weekend. To top that off, I have no classes on Tuesdays, so, including today, I have four days off. Pretty nice.

The schedule page has been updated, so have a look.
