Mmmm, warm brick

So I had a Motorola WA840G wireless AP sitting around and decided to “upgrade” the firmware to OpenWrt (yeah, the same stuff that use on the Linksys’). The changing of the firmware seemed simple enough, just upload the new firmware via the web interface and reboot the device. One caveat was the version 1 of the device was still a work in progress. Not to let a little danger get in the way, I updated my version 1’s firmware and successfully bricked my AP. Damn, I have to figure out how to change the firmware back, which finding information for is difficult. I think a little tftp action is in order.

Update: As it turns out, I didn’t brick it after all, it was just taking a long time to respond (cpu was probably pegged). One problem solved, another arises: there is too little flash or something else that would make the “firstboot” script complain about no space. So, stuff still doesn’t work.

Web 3.0cvs20060905

Oh god, facebook.com just upgraded and pulled Web 3.0 out of cvs. It’s just got more annoying as they just started to get cool with thier developer shit.

Maybe I should write in this thing

The Fall Involvment Fair was today and as Vice President of RUSLUG, I was manning the table. Well, more like making the table look nice while the others talked to the people. It was a pretty good turn out, way more that I was anticipating. The quota of having one female approach the table was reached, when we actually had around a dozen or so. This was good since Rob’s need for girl friends keeps rising (there is an inside joke somewhere is there). We gave away all of our old stock of cd for x86 (it must have been at least 50). The only thing that sucked is we were under a tree and the birds kept shitting on me.

I think we’re having a meeting on the 12th, so if anyone wants to attend (although I’m not sure of the topic) it’s 21:00 in the EIT lab. If you have a topic or want to speak at a meeting, send me a message and we’ll be more that happy to have you (it has to be somewhat linx related though).
