I was just given a Mac Plus (with 4 MB RAM, it’s max). It currently has a 20 MB external disk. Would anyone be willing to give up a bigger disk (I’d really like 40 MB; it’s external 25 pin SCSI) or System 7 install disk so I could really trick this box out?

So, WWDC was this week and it brought about the Mac Pro. I thought that maybe getting a 64-bit CPU again for Apple might get me interested in their hardware again. Not so. First off, it’s their high-end machine, meaning it’s too expensive. Second, it’s Intel’s Woodcrest chip. For people that know me, I’m not that crazy about x86, 32 nor 64-bit.
My question is, why must every review of a new Intel-based Mac include a huge section about how they got boot camp working? We know the shit works, why must everyone mention it? I’m really sick of the people getting excited about getting getting a Mac to run Windows. I really don’t see the point. Could someone explain it to me?
I’ll be at HOPE Number 6 this weekend. If anybody wants to meet up, give me a call.
Also, I resurrected the beige Powemac G3 (it’s hard disk failed a few months ago and I’ve been trying to find a OS 9 disc (or image), which I finally got). Now for some awesome Oregon Trail action.
Went shooting with a friend and his friend. So awesome.
The new MacBooks also came out yesterday, complete with “glossy screens”. I don’t like the PCness they are heading towards. I’ve never liked “glossy screens” and it’s one more reason why I won’t buy a MacBook (Pro). I don’t know, ever since thier switch to Intel, I’ve been starting to hate them.
There are also rumors that they might stop Darwin (the open source base for OS X), which is also a shame.
So last year, CCF started using the Pharos print system in the labs. This is how they can use the little Windows XP kiosk print swip estations (and have a tighter control over print management) to release print jobs. This also enables them to have printing via RUWireless. This is pretty cool, except you have to install software to use it (they are nice enough to have a OS X installer, but no Linux… boo). No big deal, but now you have this crap software on your system and they don’t tell you how to uninstall it (don’t even try going to pharos’ site, it’s garbage). They were nice enought to actually have an uninstaller (versus click and drag to the trash can), but like I said, they make no mention of it. Well, I’ll make a mention of it:
/Library/Application Support/Pharos/Uninstaller.pkg
You can uninstall that crap from your OS X machine now. From what I seen, it removes everything, even the receipt files.
Aparantly, someone else thought the multi-themed look in OS X was… uhh… crap.
Now that iTunes 5 is out, is anyone else pissed that Apple keeps changing the look of the UI? From the last count, there were 6 differnent themes (aqua (e.g. disk utility), brushed metal (e.g. Safari), wood (e.g. garage band), pro tools (e.g. Final Cut Pro), Tiger (e.g. Mail.app 2.0) and now the new iTunes).
Apple, this is not Windows, stop changing the friggin’ theme. Pick one theme and stick to it.
